To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what is the current level of employment in Wiltshire; and what were the figures in 1985 and 1980.

Employment estimates for counties are compiled only when censuses of employment are taken. The most recent figures available are for September 1987 when there were 206,400 employees in employment in the county of Wiltshire. This compares with 196,700 in September 1984 and 193,800 in September 1981 when the previous censuses were taken. The figures exclude the self-employed and members of Her Majesty's forces.
