Mr. Vaz

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will list the current queues of applicants for entry clearance in each category for the latest available month and the numbers in each queue at the posts at(a) Bombay, (b) Karachi, (c) New Delhi, (d) Dhaka, (e) Nairobi, (f) Calcutta, (g) Islamabad and (h) Dar es Salaam.

As at 31 December 1990, the estimated waiting times, in months, for persons applying for entry clearance were:

Settlement queues are organised as follows:

  • Q1—Persons with a claim to the right of abode, dependent relatives over 70 years old, special compassionate cases.
  • Q2—Spouses, and children under 18 yeas old.
  • Q3—Fiance(e)s and others applying for the first time for settlement.
  • Q4—Re-applicants.

Applicants for visit visas in Islamabad requiring a full interview can expect to wait five days. Elsewhere they are dealt with on the day of application.
