The breeding flock has expanded steadily—by nearly a million—over the last decade and now stands at 5.1 million head. In 1991, sheep producers in the LFA will benefit from substantial increases in the rate of HLCA payments and a supplement of 4 ecu to the sheep annual premium which together will increase the support payments to producers in Wales by £18 million.
