HC Deb 15 February 1991 vol 185 c607W
Sir Michael McNair-Wilson

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what sums of money have been provided by his Department towards funding Cyclosporin and AZT.

Mr. Dorrell

The costs of providing Cyclosporin and AZT within the health service are not available centrally. It is for health authorities to identify needs for the drugs and make suitable provision.

Funds for treating AIDS patients are allocated to regions on the basis of the number of live AIDS cases within the region and the cost of AZT is met from those allocations. Unlike transplants, the treatment of AIDS has been concentrated in certain regions.
