HC Deb 14 February 1991 vol 185 c561W
Dr. Thomas

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy if he will provide details of the ground contamination discovered near the active waste vaults at Trawsfynnydd nuclear power station around September 1990 and the source of this radioactive contamination.

Mr. Heathcoat-Amory

On 24 July 1990 during excavations for the construction of a new reactor fence close to the former site of a storage tank at the Trawsfynnydd nuclear power station, small amounts of low level radioactive contamination were revealed. This contamination was centred on a bolt approximately twelve inches long and associated rubble. These items are now being stored safely at the station pending their transfer to British Nuclear Fuels plc's low-level waste disposal site at Drigg. There was no radiological hazard to the work force or to members of the public as a result of this incident.
