asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will advise the Derg to withdraw its forces from Eritrean territory so that the Eritrean people may decide their political future in accordance with UN General Assembly Resolutions 1514 and 1541 of 1990.

We continue to believe that the best way to achieve a lasting settlement of the Eritrean question is by direct negotiations between the parties. Accordingly, we urge both sides to pursue actively the round of talks initiated by the United States last October, which are due to continue later this month.
