HC Deb 14 February 1991 vol 185 c588W
Mr. Wigley

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many places were offered annually under the employment training scheme since its founding; and how many of these positions have been filled by trainees with special needs.

Mr. David Hunt

The number of employment training places offered annually in Wales is as follows:

  • Some 22,300 between September 1988 and March 1989.
  • Some 15,200 in 1989–90.
  • Some 13,400 in 1990–91.

These figures relate to locally contracted provision only. Figures for nationally contracted places are not available on a regional basis.

Since the introduction of the programme in Wales, people with disabilities have accounted for 12 per cent. of starts and those requiring literacy and numeracy training 16 per cent. of starts.
