HC Deb 14 February 1991 vol 185 cc565-6W
Mr. Dobson

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy what information is collected systematically by his Department to enable him to discharge his duty under section 3(3)(b) of the Electricity Act 1989 to ensure that electricity distribution companies promote the efficient use of electricity supplied to consumers.

Mr. Wakeham

Section 3 of the Electricity Act 1989 sets out various duties 1 have to take into account when exercising my functions under the Act. In granting the initial licences to the regional electricity companies, included conditions in their public supply licences requiring them to produce a code of practice for the provision of information on the efficient use of electricity and to comply with a standard set for this activity. It falls to the Director General of Electricity Supply to approve and monitor those codes and to determine the actual standard of performance.
