§ Mr. DykesTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will hold discussions with the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis on the scope for further action by officers to deter the parking of untaxed and uninsured vehicles on streets in Greater London.
§ Mr. Peter LloydThe enforcement of offences relating to untaxed and uninsured vehicles is an operational matter and therefore for the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis. I understand that police officers and traffic wardens routinely report vehicle excise offences involving parked vehicles to the Department of Transport and support enforcement campaigns run by that Department. Insurance offences normally come to light only when a driver is stopped and asked to produce his documents.
