The correct answer should read as follows:
The following table gives the net institutional expenditure per secondary school pupil in the financial year 1988–89, and averaged examination results for three years 1986–87 to 1988–89. The purpose of averaging is to reduce sampling error within the derived percentages. Comparable information is not yet available for 1989–90.

The percentages quoted do not reflect the achievements of pupils at O-level, CSE or GCSE after leaving school; nor their attainments in examinations leading to vocational or other qualifications at school or elsewhere. The data includes grades A-C at O-level and CSE grade 1.
