To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many applications for British citizenship are currently outstanding; and when he expects the waiting time to fall below 12 months.

At the end of December 1990, there were 86,200 applications for citizenship outstanding. I cannot forecast when the waiting time will fall below 12 months.
