§ Mr. AmosTo ask the Secretary of State for Employment (1) if he will make it his policy to ensure that every non-smoking employee in his Department has the right to work in a smoke-free area; and if he will make a statement;
(2) if he will make a statement on the progress in implementing a smoke-free policy throughout his Department.
§ Mr. ForthThe policy of the Employment Department group is to discourage non-smokers from taking up smoking, positively to encourage smokers to give it up or to cut down and to create a smoke-free environment, with facilities for those who wish to smoke, rather than the other way round. In offices where it is the wish of the staff no-smoking agreements have either been implemented or are in the process of negotiation.
