HC Deb 06 February 1991 vol 185 c150W
Mr. Blunkett

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how many jobs have been created in the Merseyside docklands area since 1981; and how much each job has cost his Department through its allocation of money to the Merseyside docklands.

Mr. Portillo

A total of 4,200 permanent jobs had been created or attracted in the Merseyside development corporation area up to March 1990. It is not practicable to distinguish between expenditure leading directly to job creation and that leading to other regneration benefits.
