HC Deb 06 February 1991 vol 185 cc148-9W
Mr. Tony Lloyd

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what is the expected time it takes for(a) an explanatory statement to be prepared and dispatched in cases of appeal against refusal of entry clearance and (b) for information concerning refused visitors' visas to be sent to Britain from overseas posts.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

Overseas posts are under instruction to prepare and despatch explanatory statements for appeals against refusal of entry clearance to the independent appellate authority within one month for visit applications and three months for settlement applications.

The correspondence unit of the migration and visa department in the FCO tries to reply to inquiries from Members about refused visitors' visas within three weeks of the inquiry being registered with the unit. However, in some cases it may take longer to obtain the full case details.
