§ Dr. GodmanTo ask the Secretary of State for Social Security if he will list the temperatures used to trigger severe weather payments recorded in each of the weather stations used for Greenock, Port Glasgow and Gourock for each day during the last two weeks of 1990 and those weeks in January 1991, for which figures are available.
§ Mr. ScottA weather station will trigger if there has been a period of seven consecutive days, during which the average mean daily temperature is 0 deg. Centigrade or less. Glasgow airport weather station, which is the weather station relevant to Greenock, Port Glasgow and Gourock, did not trigger on any day during the last two weeks of 1990. The only time to date that the weather has been severe enough to trigger cold weather payments in Greenock, Port Glasgow and Gourock was on Wednesday 16 January when the seven day running mean temperature was recorded as — 0.2 deg. Centigrade.
Full details of average mean daily temperatures recorded at all the weather stations can be found in the Library.
