HC Deb 05 February 1991 vol 185 c91W
17. Mr. Irvine

To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will make a statement on the achievements to date in research work by the National Institute for Biological Standards and Research.

Mr. Dorrell

Since it was founded in 1972, the institute's major role has been the development of international standards for biological medicines, in which it has an international reputation. It has also been in the forefront of biomedical research, which includes AIDS vaccine research and work on improving vaccines against polio and influenza.
