HL Deb 05 February 1991 vol 525 c43WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether it is their intention to use the UN Resolution where it speaks of "restoring peace and stability" to widen their war aims in the Gulf to include the regulation of armed forces in the region, and if so:

  1. (a) is this to include limitations on all weapons of mass destruction in the region, including, for example, the Israeli nuclear weapons capability, as well as Iraq's chemical and biological warfare equipment and facilities; and relevant missiles, so as to preclude future arms races; and
  2. (b) is this to cover sales of weapons to and manufacture of weapons by states in the region of weapons.

The Earl of Caithness

Our aims in the current conflict in the Gulf are set out in the UN Security Council Resolutions on the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait.
