HL Deb 04 February 1991 vol 525 c38WA

Baroness Fisher of Rednal asked her Majesty's Government:

Which organisations concerned with visual impairment will be the beneficiary of the £50,000 which arises from the reduction of the Royal National Institute for the Blind braille grant.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Health (Baroness Hooper)

The reduction in the grant to the RNIB for the embossed literature service has released resources which have enabled us to make a number of new and increased grants in the field of sensory impairment. We have increased the core grants to the two regional associations which provide training for rehabilitation workers with people with a visual impairment. We have made a new grant to the RNIB for work in selected health and local authorities to develop a model for services for deaf-blind people. We have also given new grants to the RNID and the British Association for the Hard of Hearing for projects to help people with a hearing impairment.
