HC Deb 20 December 1991 vol 201 c362W
Mr. Barry Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what is the rate of(a) female unemployment, (b) male unemployment and (c) long-term unemployment in Dyfed.

Mr. David Hunt

In November 1991 the unemployment rates for men and women in Dyfed were 11.3 per cent. and 5.6 per cent. of the work force respectively.

The latest available long-term unemployment data are for October, when 1.8 per cent. of the Dyfed work force had been unemployed for more than one year.

Mr. Barry Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what measures he proposes to assist the unemployed in Dyfed.

Mr. David Hunt

My Department, the Welsh Development Agency and other Government agencies operate a wide range of measures aimed at combating unemployment. The Welsh Office and all the other bodies will continue to look for and respond swiftly to opportunities that arise which have the potential to reduce unemployment.

Mr. Barry Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what measures he proposes to assist the unemployed in the Fishguard area.

Mr. David Hunt

My Department, the Welsh Development Agency and other Government agencies operate a wide range of measures aimed at combating unemployment. The Welsh Office and all the other bodies will continue to look for and respond swiftly to opportunities that arise which have the potential to reduce unemployment. I have, in particular, asked the Welsh Development Agency and West Wales TEC, in association with the local authorities and employment services, to consider what action needs to be taken to alleviate the effects of the proposed closure of RNAD Trecwn.
