To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make a statement on the Midland metro.

I announced in October that development funding of £1.5 million was being made available for further work to be done on the project. I have now decided that extra resources, in addition to this sum, should be provided in 1992–93 so that more preparatory work can be carried out. Full funding will be considered in due course.
