To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will list the grants awarded by the Historic Buildings Council of Wales to(a) the Marquess of Anglesey and (b) the National Trust in respect of Plas Newydd during the last 10 years.

The Department grant aids the costs of restoring eligible historic buildings on the advice of the Historic Buildings Council for Wales. The council itself does not make grants. In the last 10 years the following grants have been awarded:

  1. (a) Marquess of Anglesey—1987—£892 (repair of Nelson Monument).
  2. (b) National Trust (for Plas Newydd—1985—£102,100 (repair of roof, rainwater goods and chimney heads).
