(a) How many persons, currently in English prisons, are serving sentences for convictions based solely on confessions, not corroborated, obtained by police officers whose evidence is now regarded as 82WA suspect; and (b) whether they can estimate how many more appeals against such convictions will be presented in the Court of Appeal.

My right honourable friend the Home Secretary is always ready to consider representations and to examine any case in which the evidence is alleged to be suspect. He would not hesitate to refer any such case to the Court of Appeal if there were grounds to justify such action.
