HC Deb 19 December 1991 vol 201 c246W
Mr. Michael

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what consideration he has given to the use of closed-circuit television as a means of monitoring city centre activity with a view to targeting the deployment of police resources.

Mr. John Patten

The use of surveillance systems is an operational matter for chief officers. The Home Office crime prevention centre conducted a survey last year of more than 100 CCTV schemes in England, Wales and Scotland, and the results have been circulated to police forces.
