HC Deb 18 December 1991 vol 201 c188W
Mr. Alex Carlile

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will make a statement concerning the effect on the United Kingdom bicycle manufacturing industry of the importation of cheap bicycles manufactured in the People's Republic of China.

Mr. Sainsbury

[holding answer 11 December 1991]: I am well aware of the concerns of the United Kingdom bicycle manufacturing industry. Last September, import duty was reimposed on imports into the Community of bicycles from China for the remainder of 1991.

The European bicycle industry has made an anti-dumping complaint against bicycles from China and this is currently being investigated by the European Commission.
