§ Mr. FraserTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs on what terms and conditions the United Kingdom Government support the employment of judges in Kenya; on what criteria judges are seconded to that country; and on what criteria judges seconded to serve in Kenya are reappointed or removed.
§ Mrs. ChalkerJudges working in Kenya under the British aid programme—there are three at the present time 103W —are employed by the Government of Kenya on contract. They are not seconded. The Government of Kenya pays the salaries of judges employed under these arrangements and the ODA pays salary supplements and certain other benefits. Decisions to reappoint or terminate the appointments of judges are normally made following consultations between the Government of Kenya and Her Majesty's Government and taking account of a wide range of considerations.
