HL Deb 17 December 1991 vol 533 cc47-8WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Who, and from which government department, is representing the United Kingdom on the International Space Year Forum.

Lord Reay

The British National Space Centre (BNSC), which draws together the civil space interests of the Department of Trade and Industry, the Science and Engineering Research Council, the Meteorological Office, the Department of the Environment, the Natural Environment Research Council, the Ministry of Defence, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the Cabinet Office, is co-ordinating the Government's involvement in International Space Year.

BNSC is doing this through membership of two international fora, SAFISY (Space Agency Forum on International Space Year) and EURISY (Europe in International Space Year). BNSC was also instrumental in setting up a British Industry Group for International Space Year (BISY) and is working closely with that organisation in making a specifically British contribution to International Space Year.
