HC Deb 17 December 1991 vol 201 cc130-1W
Mr. Roger King

To ask the Secretary of State for Health when registration of premises used for food business will be a statutory requirement.

Mr. Dorrell

The Food Premises (Registration) Regulations 1991 have been laid before Parliament. The objective of these regulations is to ensure that local authorities responsible for the enforcement of food legislation have information about the food businesses operating in their area so that they can target their enforcement resources to those which represent the highest risk to health. The regulations take effect on 1 February 1992. Existing businesses must register with their local authority by 30 April 1992. There will be a national publicity campaign to alert the owners of food businesses to the new requirements.
