To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs when Her Majesty's Government intend to ratify the United Nations convention on the rights of the child; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

[pursuant to his answer, 2 December 1991]: The United Kingdom ratified the United Nations convention on the rights of the child on 16 December 1991. Progress is being made towards extending ratification to the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands and dependent territories.

A copy of the instrument of ratification has been placed in the Library of the House.
