HL Deb 16 December 1991 vol 533 c43WA
Lord Houghton of Sowerby

asked Her Majesty's Government:

When and where the first trial under the War Crimes Act will take place.

The Lord Chancellor (Lord Mackay of Clashfern)

It is too soon to say when any decisions whether to prosecute will be taken.

Lord Houghton of Sowerby

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What provision is being made to provide legal aid for persons accused of war crimes under the War Crimes Act.

The Lord Chancellor

No special arrangements are necessary for persons accused of war crimes under the War Crimes Act 1990, since legal aid is available subject to the usual conditions for criminal legal aid.
