HC Deb 11 December 1991 vol 200 c443W
Mr. Frank Field

To ask the Secretary of State for Health whether he has now obtained an undertaking from life insurance companies that they will no longer ask questions of proposers that have the effect of putting people off taking the HIV test.

Mrs. Virginia Bottomley

People who believe themselves to be at risk of HIV infection should not be deterred from having a test because of the questions asked by insurance companies. Discussions with the Association of British Insurers are continuing with the aim of finding ways in which the insurance industry can obtain the information they require for risk assessment, but which do not deter people from coming forward for testing or help.
