To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list the number of households in temporary accommodation for the years 1979–80, 1989–90 and 1990–91, in each local authority in England and Wales.

Information on homeless households for whom local authorities have accepted responsibility to secure permanent accommodation under the provisions of the Housing (Homeless Persons) Act 1977 and part III of the Housing Act 1985 is reported quarterly to the Department.

The available information on the numbers of such households who were resident in temporary accommodation, including some on whom homelessness inquiries had not yet been completed, can be found in the following publications:-
