HL Deb 10 December 1991 vol 533 c32WA
Lord Molloy

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What steps they are taking to improve liaison between the Office of Arts and Libraries and the Library Association.

Viscount Astor

The Office of Arts and Libraries consults the Library Association on most areas of work in the library field and there is day to day contact between officials. In addition, representatives from the association regularly attend meetings with officials and with the Minister for the Arts.

Lord Molloy

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will consult the Library Association about proposed regulations relating to public libraries.

Viscount Astor

The Library Association was consulted on, and attended meetings to discuss, the draft Library Charges (England and Wales) Regulations 1991. It made a valuable contribution and several amendments were made to the draft in light of the association's comments.
