HC Deb 10 December 1991 vol 200 c374W
Mr. Vaz

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will make it his policy to oppose a phase-out of the multi-fibre arrangement until the necessary strengthening of GATT rules and the ending of all barriers to British exports has been agreed.

Mr. Lilley

The Secretary General of GATT, Mr. Dunkel, has made clear that any final Uruguay round settlement must involve stronger GATT rules, a new framework for implementing results, a general opening of markets and specific commitments to return textiles to GATT.
