HC Deb 09 December 1991 vol 200 c298W
Mr. Cousins

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what guidance he has offered to research councils on the desirability of raising revenue from their activities and projects; and if he will place the text of such guidance in the Library.

Mr. Alan Howarth

Within their charter responsibilities, the terms of their financial memoranda with the Department, and central guidance on fees and charges, the research councils are free to raise revenue from their activities and projects, and are encouraged to do so where appropriate. In particular, they are expected to protect and exploit fully any intellectual property that they own.
