To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what information he has on the number of children on(a) permanent and (b) indefinite exclusion from school; and if he will list this in tabular form by local education authority.

The Department is collecting data on permanent exclusions in the two-year period from May 1990. It is not yet possible to provide data by local education authority on a standard basis.

No information on indefinite exclusions is collected centrally.
