To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what consultations he has held with the Council of Tribunals regarding the powers of the Director General of Telecommunications to settle disputes.

Mr. Redwood

The Council of Tribunals has expressed a potential interest in dispute procedures of all four utilities covered by the Competition Service (Utilities) Bill. This is being considered, in conjunction with other Departments, and a response to the Council will be made shortly.
