HC Deb 05 December 1991 vol 200 c194W
Mr. Gwilym Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what action he is taking to examine and validate the waiting lists of consultants in Wales.

Mr. Nicholas Bennett

All health authorities in Wales are required to ensure that waiting lists are validated. This is being undertaken at hospital, specialty and individual consultant level as appropriate. The importance of validating lists as part of good management practice has been stressed to the health authorities. I am asking for a report of what procedures each has in place.

Mr. Gwilym Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what action he is taking to publicise the lengths of consultants' waiting lists in Wales and to assist patients to choose the shortest waiting times for their operations.

Mr. Nicholas Bennett

The patients charter requires that from 1 April 1992, all district health authorities in Wales should publish waiting times for out-patient, day care and in-patient treatment by hospital, specialty and individual consultant.
