HC Deb 05 December 1991 vol 200 c200W
Mr. Andrew Bowden

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what plans the Government have to publicise the dangers of hypothermia in the winter months; and what plans the Government have to publicise the "Winter Warmth" line which gives advice to older people about keeping warm in winter.

Mr. Dorrell

The Government's fifth annual "Keep Warm, Keep Well" campaign was launched on 16 October. The purpose of the campaign, which is run jointly with Help the Aged, Neighbourhood Energy Action and Age Concern, is to advise vulnerable people of the steps they can take to minimise the risks from cold weather and to inform them of the help that is available. The campaign is publicised widely through radio and television. A free booklet in English and nine ethnic languages is also available from amongst others doctors, dentists, libraries and citizens advice bureaux. The winter warmth line is one component part of the "Keep Warm, Keep Well" campaign and is given wide publicity by the participating agencies.
