Information about secure accommodation in Wales is a matter for my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Wales.
§ Mr. MichaelTo ask the Secretary of State for Health which Government Departments will provide grants and what percentage of(a) capital costs and (b) revenue costs each will contribute for the two new secure units due to open soon.
§ Mrs. Virginia BottomleyGrants to local authorities for the provision of secure accommodation are made available158W by the Department under powers in section 82(2) of the Children Act 1989. Such grants are limited to the capital costs of the project, associated professional fees, and a contribution towards commissioning costs. Revenue costs are a matter for the providing local authority. A 100 per cent. grant has been made available to meet the capital costs, and associated fees, of each of the two new secure units in Birmingham and Humberside. In addition, a grant has been provided to Humberside to meet 50 per cent. of the capital cost of providing a gymnasium, which will be shared with the open part of the home.
