Mr. Murphy

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what has been the average unit of resource per full-time equivalent student for each academic year between 1979–80 and 1991–92 (a) gross domestic product deflated and (b) university pay and prices index deflated, with both answers expressed in t sterling.

1 The unit of public funding for universities is estimated using the total of the University Funding Council recurrent grant (which is based on the financial year) and tuition fee income (excluding fees for overseas students) and the number of full-time equivalent students in the financial year. The recurrent grant figure includes UFC grant for research.
