§ Mr. Bernie GrantTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many allegations of racial discrimination have been made against the Metropolitan police by serving or ex-police officers in each year since 1985; how many settlements or awards there were in respect of such allegations in each of those years; what the total amount of such settlements or awards were in each or those years; and whether the Commissioner intends to take disciplinary action against officers against whom any of these allegations were made.
§ Mr. Peter LloydI understand that one allegation was made in 1986, one in 1987, two in 1990 and two in 1991. There have been two awards made in respect of the allegations: £20,000 in 1991, and £1,000 in 1990—this award was for victimisation, the original discrimination claim having been dismissed. Disciplinary investigations have either taken place, or are under way in respect of all the allegations; one officer has been disciplined under regulation 9 of the discipline code as a consequence.
