To ask the Secretary of State for Employment how many women workers who earn more than £185 a week are covered by contractual maternity pay arrangements; and what is this figure as a percentage of(a) all women who earn more than £185 a week and (b) the total female work force.

We do not hold information on the total number of women workers covered by contractual maternity pay arrangements. However, the recent Policy Studies Institute report on maternity rights in Britain found that of the 2,514 women employees surveyed, 360–14 per cent.—received contractual maternity pay.
