HC Deb 03 December 1991 vol 200 c119W
Mr. Bill Walker

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is yet in a position to make a statement about the future of Craigtoun hospital.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

The Secretary of State has today approved Fife health board's proposal to close Craigtoun hospital, St. Andrews. The health board has upgraded St. Andrew's memorial hospital at a cost of £.0.1 million in order to provide patients from Craigtoun with a better quality of care, including a higher standard of therapeutic and other services. The closure will release revenue of around £½ million which will allow the board to make service improvements including developing community support to care for the elderly in north-east Fife.
