HC Deb 03 December 1991 vol 200 cc122-3W
Mr. Summerson

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what proportion of air time on television and radio is devoted to broadcasting on subjects of particular interest to each of the Indian, Pakistani, Turkish, Irish and Afro-Caribbean communities in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Peter Lloyd

The information is not available in the form requested. However material for ethnic minorities is produced by the BBC's Asian and Afro-Caribbean units and broadcast by BBC radio and television. Independent local radio stations in six areas cater specifically for ethnic minorities. Channel 4 includes programmes for minorities, and ITV companies must include material calculated to appeal specially to the tastes and outlook of persons they serve. Other broadcast material will be of particular interest to various groups, regardless of their ethnic origin.
