HC Deb 30 April 1991 vol 190 c114W
Mr. Simon Hughes

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if any consideration has been given to transferring the cost of police time spent on duty as witnesses in court proceedings from the Home Office vote to the vote of the Lord Chancellor's office; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peter Lloyd

No. A police officer giving evidence in court is acting in pursuance of the general duty of the police to preserve law and order. We have no plans to alter the present arrangements.
