To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security if he will estimate the cost in the financial year 1991–92 of raising the invalid care allowance to the level of the category A retirement pension, giving figures for Great Britain and the United Kingdom.

The estimated gross cost for Great Britain is £116.6 million. The estimate is based on the public expenditure plans contained in the current Departmental Report (Cm. 1514). Information relating to Northern Ireland is a matter for my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland.
