§ Mr. DobsonTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will give for each year from 1979–80, including 1991–92, the number of staff actually employed on 1 April and the full complement of staff, including vacant posts, by grade, in the statistical divisions in his Department; and if he will differentiate between staff in statistical posts and staff in administrative posts.
§ Mr. Heseltine[holding answer 29 April 1991]: The numbers and grades of staff and complement in the statistical divisions1 of DOE (Central) are set out in the table.
1 The statistical divisions in DOE (Central) comprise housing data statistics, finance local authority statistics, land and general statistics, environmental protection statistics, and construction industry statistics. There are also statisticians employed throughout the Department in posts of a largely administrative nature: these numbered 10 at 1 April 1991.
We do not have readily available historical data for each year back to 1 April 1979, but I have provided staff in post data for various dates within the 1979–80 to 1991–92 period in my replies to questions dated 21 July 1988, 13 March 1989 and 6 March 1990.
