HL Deb 30 April 1991 vol 528 c20WA
Baroness Phillips

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What resources the Government provides for crime prevention.

The Minister of State, Home Office (Earl Ferrers)

Planned Home Office expenditure on crime prevention for 1991–92 is £16 million. This includes £6.5 million for publicity, and £7 million for the Safer Cities programme, which is a multi-agency crime prevention initiative in 20 high-crime urban areas. It also includes the running costs of the police crime prevention training centre. Through the Estate Action Programme the Department of the Environment makes resources available to local authorities for improving the quality of life on run-down local authority housing estates. From its inception in 1986 up to the end of 1989–90, Estate Action allocated nearly £100 million for improving security and encouraging crime prevention.
