21. Mr. Wigley

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence how many persons are currently enlisted in the Army; and how many of these are based(a) in Wales, (b) in the United Kingdom and (c) abroad.

Mr. Kenneth Carlisle

As at 1 March, there were 131,643 other ranks enlisted in the Army. Of these, 973 were based in Wales, 70,047 in the rest of the United Kingdom and 60,623 abroad.
