§ Mr. AlisonThe commissioners' primary responsibility is the support of the clergy and their funds are not generally available for churches. However, they provided approximately £900,000 in 1987, £1.8 million in 1988 and £2.5 million in 1989 towards church buildings, either under specific legislative authority or to meet legal obligations to do with land ownership.
